How to Start a Decorating Project
Thinking about decorating can be a lot of fun; but when the time to start actually comes, it's easy to get overwhelmed. Hopefully, this little tutorial can help you find the right place to begin so your decorating dreams become realities.
When it comes right down to it, everything starts with a plan. You need to get together all the information you need to make good decisions (budget, room measurements, etc.) and work from there. Of course the plan doesn't have to be set in stone, and you can always adjust it if necessary. Choose a theme and color scheme and select new furniture and decorations around them.
Most people can't afford to start decorating from scratch, so chances are you will be working around some things (maybe furniture, flooring, or counter tops) you already have. If there are things you have to use but don't like, find ways to down play or camouflage them and then focus on the things that you do like.
Work from whatever you have and want to keep. If you have art you like, start there. If you have more modern art, then you will probably want to go with a more contemporary decorating style. Or if you want to start with a rug, pick colors from the rug and choose pieces that match those colors.
In the end, the most important thing is just to start. Once you start, chances are you'll find the momentum you need to finish.
